The departments of RCSI.
RCSI has been restructured somewhat since its creation. The agency is patterned off of a combination of the old feudal structure and the modern Ministry hierarchy.
Technically, the head of RCSI is the reigning King or Queen. In reality, this is impractical, and while Queen Moraine is very much involved in the Agency, she's not the one giving out the orders.
At the top of the structure is the Agency's Commander. The Commander is an ex-field
agent, responsible for the entire agency, and reports directly to the Queen. The Commander is
appointed by the Queen from a short list of candidates. Currently, RCSI's commander is Kenneth
Boothroyd, a stodgy old badger with little sense of humor.
The Commander's second in command is the Head of Archives. Also selected by
the Monarch, the HoA oversees not only the Archivists, but also the Assistant program, the general staff
and other day to day dealings with the agency. While the Commander is responsible directly for the
field agents and, by extension, the whole of RCSI, it's the HoA who makes it run smoothly. Patria
Pennyworth currently holds the position of Head of Archives.
RCSI is composed of several departments. Medical, Technical, Magical, Staff, Diplomatic Relations,
Archives and Field. Field and Archives report to the Commander and the HoA directly, but each of the
others have their own Department Head. The Department Heads report to the Commander directly but,
other than a weekly staff meeting they are generally left to their own departments.
Current Department Heads:
Field - Commander Kenneth Boothroyd
Archives - Mrs. Patria Pennyworth
Diplomatic Relations - Sir Toby Hill
Medical - Dr. Vincent Najir
Technical - Dr. Brian Wadsworth
Magical - Lady Gadel al'Gera
Staff - Captain Leslie Anders (Ret. RAF)
Field Agents are the front liners of RCSI. Whether working on rotation or on a more
interesting mission, it's the Field Agents and their Assistants who are constantly putting themselves in
between the magical world and the mundane. Field Agents are typically assigned to a Division, which
generally train to handle specific threats and cases.
Field Divisions:
General:
The troubleshooters of RCSI, General Division is typically the smallest, and the hardest
worked. General Agents get to tackle cases that no other group will touch, or are just too
difficult for the average agent to handle. The phrase, "jack of all trades, master of none"
tends to apply to General Division, lending these agents a wide array of skills.
Werewolf:
The second largest division, Werewolf is a battle oriented group. They are considered to be
the hardest fighters in the agency, and they have to be. The London Werewolf outbreak in
the early 1980's showed RCSI exactly how tough a supernatural opponent can be. The only
division to put a racial restriction on its members, Werewolf will not allow canines into its
ranks due to the high risk of infection.
Ghost:
The largest group in RCSI, Ghost Division is responsible for charting all the spectral and
supernatural activity in the UK. This is the least demanding field division, although the one
with the worst regular hours.
Faerie:
The division at the greatest risk to life and limb is the group that deals with the Fey. Putting
themselves between the Faerie Courts and their mortal prey, Faerie Division monitors the
various gates. Additionally, Faerie Division handles direct contact between the local fey
and their mortal neighbors, acting as middlemen in disputes or trouble.
Vampire:
Formed against a potential threat (as of this writing, no known vampire attacks have
occurred in the UK), Vampire Division is on the watch against the blood sucking undead.
Due to the lack of actual cases, Vampire Division has dwindled to a much smaller staff, and
tends to be the place where troublesome agents end up.
Agents and their Assistants:
Due to the dangerous nature of field work, potential agents are paired with more experienced members
of RCSI for an Assistantship. Assistantships typically last two to three years, at which point the
commanding Agent decides whether to submit his Assistant for promotion, or recommend a transfer to
a position outside the field.
RCSI's archives are among the most disorgainzed, chaotic and complete library of supernatural
references in the world. Case files of every documented incident stretching back to the 1940's sit side
by side with handwritten manuscripts from the middle ages. The archivists have their own system of
referencing, and it's rumored that going into the Archives without one of the specialists is an exercise in
futility. The archivists joke that it's a form of job security but, in reality, the Archives themselves have
resisted any attempts at establishing a more efficient system.
