THE VERSION I ARCHIVE
When William the Conqueror defeated Harold in the Battle of Hastings of 1066, he never expected to have to deal with magic. When the mages became
troublesome, William ordered the monks of Westminster Abbey to find a way to remove their magic. By any means necessary. Though research, trial and error, the monks created a seal in the form of a small, stained glass window. The Dawn Seal slowly drained the magic from Britain.
As time passed, creatures adjusted to the loss of magic, discovering other methods of interacting with their world. Leaps in science, medicine, and literature were made. And magic became a thing of stories.
But all that changed during a bombing raid in World War II. A section of Westminster Abbey was damaged, the impact shattering the Dawn Seal. With the destruction of the glass the magic was released, flooding the neighboring area with power. The fey, locked away in their own realm, felt the release of magic and sent a small, pesky pixie out into the mortal world to investigate.
Meanwhile, strange sightings started occurring throughout London. When a young hound from MI5 (Jacob Roderick) was accused of purposely breaking his arm in order to be removed from field duty, he became determined to prove that the ogre he ran across was real and not a figment of his imagination. His search led him back to Westminster Abbey which seemed to be a dead end. While leaving, he discovered a young girl in an alley all alone. Concerned, he approached the girl only to find out later that she's actually a young pixie (Merrybell) in disguise. With Merrybell's aid, Roderick managed to convince the head of MI5 (K) that the sightings were real and a small think tank division was started to investigate further.
Another trip to Westminster Abbey had better results. With the plans for the original Dawn Seal in hand, Roderick and his team attempted to recreate the Seal. When the glass had no effect, another method was needed. Unfortunately, money had run out. Desperate for funds, Roderick slipped a notice into a series of letters which gained the attention of the princess (Moraine Mousira). Moraine had been seeing a large ghost and wanted to know if Roderick could get rid of it. In the chaos from the encounter, Moraine's magic was released and Merrybell was killed. Moraine, amazed by what she'd just seen, agreed to fund Roderick's new agency herself. Roderick meanwhile, distraught from the loss of Merrybell, returned to MI5 to give Moraine's orders to K and to figure out a more effective way of dealing with magic.
Seven years pass... The new agency named the Royal Center of Special Investigations (RCSI or "Risky" as its members call it) is doing well with Roderick as the commander. When Moraine demands Roderick accept the role as her personal guardian (one of the requirements for her funding RCSI) Roderick decides to take a solo mission and never returns, leaving Agent Twitter (John Marcus) to act as her guardian. While everyone in the agency is upset at Roderick's disappearance, no one seems more distraught than Moraine herself. Meanwhile, embassy missions were started in the two neighboring magic based nations of Brumborg and Astoria.
Fifty years pass... A much older Moraine looks for her grandson (Matthew Mousira) in the hospital wing of RCSI, only to find him with a young mouse named Hunter (Max McConnor). We learn that something lead to the death of Matthew's parents, the death of an agent, Hunter's injuries and the release of the young prince's magic. We also learn that Moraine is communicating through letters with someone named "Spooky". More will be revealed over time...
This is a silly one-shot involving Ruby (Rubella Pyrenees - Gypsy), a Ray Stevens song, and a lot of streaking. Ruby causes chaos by running around the area, including a grocers, a petrol station and a basketball game. Not to be taken too seriously. Did we mention Ruby was an All-State streaker her senior year of high school?
Eric and Ellen Peterson make a short apperance for the first time.
We join a glum Max and his good friend Brad (Bradley Cooper) in a pub. Through Brad's light ribbing, we learn Max has been expelled from Oxford for supposedly dallying with the university chancellor's one and only granddaughter, Vicky Meins. Annoyed at Brad's happy-go-lucky attitude, Max leaves the pub. On this way home he hears a young woman scream and rushes into the alley to help her, only to find himself facing a large fox-fey (The Fey Prince). When the woman gets away the fey turns his anger on Max, pummeling him with magic until Max manages to loop a length of iron chain around the fox-fey's arm, burning the fey. Their fight is interrupted by a large ginger tabby (Agent Predator - Davis Wright) who runs the fey off, but not before the fey promises to come after Max again. Predator then asks the young Max if he'd be interested in a job...
While trying to exorcise a certain cursed drum set (Spinal Tap anyone?) RCSI's only mage (Major Tom Beddford) snuffs it. Desperate for a new one and with little options, the Commander (Kenneth Boothroyd) sends Max and Ruby to the small neighboring island nation of Astoria to act as escorts for the new mage. When Max and Ruby voice their displeasure at this decision, Boothroyd admits that there have been some "problems" in Astoria and Max and Ruby, who are more fighters than diplomats, are being sent in as insurance.
Meanwhile, in the nation of Astoria, a young mage (Lady Gadel al'Gera) is busy packing while her friend (Wynnifred Laisah) watches. Wynnie tries to convince Gadel
not to move to Britain, but Gadel says she needs to go since their queen (Raewyn al'Melis al'Gera) asked her to. The head of the Astorian Mage Academy (Lord
Cedric al'Kellis al'Gera) shows up to encourage Gadel to stay as well, but she says she intends to follow through with her decision to leave.
Due to the high level of magic in the island, the last part of the trip to Astoria has to be made by sailboat. Things seem to be going well until an explosion destroys
the boat, leaving Max, Ruby and a wounded sailor (Mike Roberts) stranded in the ocean still a ways from land. With little choice, Max and Ruby start to swim for
shore, pulling Roberts with them. Meanwhile, a dark robed figure on the cliffs looks very pleased with themself and disappears in a puff of smoke.
Two days later Max and Ruby's delay is being discussed by a very annoyed Cedric and the concerned British ambassador (Lord James Gerrig). Max and Ruby arrive soon after in a rough state which upsets Cedric even more. He storms out of the Embassy in a huff. Ruby admits that Cedric looks very familiar to her and begins to tell Max and Gerrig about a time when she was three-years-old. She says a robber tried to break into her family's house but her dad (Joshua Pyrenees - Agent Lion) ran him off. She's certain that the robber was Cedric. Max and Gerrig laugh at the idea, but Ruby still feels it was him, though she admits she can't understand exactly what Cedric would have wanted.
A little later, Cedric stops in front of a mirror to berate Gadel and Wynnie for using a spell to watch what's been happening. Annoyed at their stunt, he orders them to spend the evening cleaning in the apothecary lab. Later, the two girls are in the lab discussing what they've seen. Wynnie tries once more to convince Gadel to stay. When her words don't work, she decides to steal a bit of dried dragon blood. Meanwhile, at the British Embassy, Gerrig talks with Max some more about the accident on the boat. Max, convinced it was no accident, admits that he doesn't trust Cedric.
Cedric, meanwhile, meets with Queen Raewyn to inform her that the escorts have arrived. He tries to encourage her to stop the treaty but she refuses, admitting that she wants to learn more about RCSI and Britain in the hopes of tapping into their magic.
The next day Max, Ruby and Gerrig visit Midaugh (Lord Saeran Midaugh) to ransom back one of their agents (Donald Harris - Bullet) who went missing three months ago. On their way out of the embassy, Ruby comments on the number of spare collars as well as a sign requiring all members of the embassy to wear a band, even non-field agents. Gerrig mentions that they've had some trouble with agents going missing in the past and that the bands are a safety measure.
Bullet is less than thrilled to see Max, who he dislikes. Bullet's even mored annoyed when he finds out Midaugh wasn't trying to snoop for secrets like he thought, but was only interested in securing trade agreements.
Later that evening, Ruby has a dream about her dad and Cedric. Startled awake, she wonders again why Cedric looks so familiar and whether Gerrig's been completely honest with them. She wakes Max and the two of them sneak down to raid Gerrig's office.
While searching through the various papers on Gerrig's desk, Max discovers a book listing all the agents who've gone missing while working in Astoria. While looking through it, Max runs across a familiar face - Ruby's father. Ruby, meanwhile, discovers a book of
records... slave records. Putting two and two together, Ruby figures out just what Cedric was after when he attacked her
home. He was after her father...
